I got annoyed of not being able to find any good data on which watches the best endurance athletes in the world actually train and race with. Surely that would be a good indication of which brand is best? Not sure.

Either way I built this for anyone with the same question. Rankings are pulled from PTO, World Athletics, and UCI, the watch data is populated by agents. Updated a couple of times a year, probably at the start and end of Ironman season.

Garmin dominates, at least for now — COROS seems to be making inroads at the top, especially in triathlon. Whether that's genuine preference or sponsorship money is part of what I'm trying to track over time.

If you spot something wrong or know what a listed athlete is wearing, send me a DM. I'd rather have the data be right than be the one who collected it. Might crowdsource if it proves useful.

The rankings are scraped and each athlete is then looked up by an agent that searches through sponsorship announcements, Strava runs, race footage, and YouTube training videos - in that order. It's still inaccuate and requires manual checking for most athletes, which is why updates are infrequent. Once Claude gets better at web search it might get more frequent updates.

confirmed means the watch on their wrist has been seen in footage or on Strava. sponsored means there's a publicly announced brand deal — they might wear something else in training. unknown means no reliable data has been found yet.

The data isn't perfect. Athletes change watches, sponsorships end, and both the agents and I miss things. Treat it as a reasonable snapshot. If the last update was more than six months ago, assume some of it is stale.
